The story behind
Livestock
Created as my final project in Painting I at Mississippi College, this piece was inspired by my family’s farm, HillTop Cattle. The composition was thoughtfully developed using reference photos taken specifically for this work, allowing me to intentionally capture the environment, light, and subjects that are personal to me.
My goal was to create a bright and airy atmosphere that reflects the quiet beauty and rhythm of everyday farm life. At the center of the piece is a mother cow and her calf, a nod toward care, continuity, and the natural life cycle of cattle. Painted on a 48x24 wood panel, the surface choice enhances the piece’s rustic character, grounding the scene in a sense of place and tradition.
